October’s TechEd conference event saw SAP SE reveal several new enhancements to its flagship S/4HANA software, with a focus on supporting businesses to maximise their data management and insights.
Powered by S/4HANA Cloud, SAP Datasphere provides enterprises with data management, data analytics and artificial intelligence, automation and application development. The new Datasphere will soon provide SAP customers with an embedded data lake service for hosting structured, semi-structured and unstructured data.
SAP Business Technology Platform empowers SAP experts to build and extend applications and increase integration capabilities in the cloud ecosystem. SAP BTP encompasses Datasphere, the architecture that enables enterprises to integrate, store and manage data from both SAP and non-SAP systems alike, and using tools like Apache Spark and SQL on Files to streamline data processing for users.
“As it is embedded in SAP Datasphere, the object store will provide another layer within the data stack that facilitates the onboarding of data products from SAP applications such as SAP S/4HANA, SAP BW, etc. Customers will be able to leverage all the core capabilities of SAP Datasphere such as analytic models, catalogue, data integration, and more for the object store and will allow for direct access to the store for faster and better decision making,” said Juergen Mueller, Chief Technology Officer at SAP SE.
“Each piece of information is stored in the database in three parts: the subject of the data, the object to which it is related and the nature of the relationship between the two. This approach efficiently organizes data into a web of interconnected facts, making it easier to see how different pieces of information relate to one another.”
The increased efficiency and simplification of large, complex datasets will help business leaders speed up decision-making and discover hidden insights using SAP Analytics Cloud. Ultimately, Datasphere will be a more powerful tool for contextualised data management at scale. The data lake capabilities are scheduled to be available by the end of 2024.

"From our perspective and position as talent partner to employers and technology professionals in Europe, there is a very high demand from businesses seeking to hire SAP experts proficient in SAP Business Technology Platform and SAP Analytics Cloud," said Jaime Simon, Divisional Director at Energize SAP.
"Compared with the same period in 2023, 2024 has seen job vacancies for Data Migration, Data Governance, and SAP Business Warehouse more than double. With the impending deadline to migrate to S/4HANA in 2027, we anticipate this demand will only increase in an employment market already short in number of quality candidates. It will be incumbent on hiring organisations to compete for this talent by ensuring their own technology ecosystem is advanced, as well as offering the appropriate remuneration packages to achieve the in-house hires they require."
