About the Company
Our client is a well funded robotics startup building next generation automated hardware for a large, underserved service industry. Backed by experienced entrepreneurs and strategic industry investors, the company is moving fast from prototype to field deployed product, with a small, senior engineering team and significant near term growth plans. The Role
We are looking for an engineer who is an expert in complex mechatronic system design and who can contribute directly to the delivery of a multidisciplinary industrial robotic product. This role covers the full lifecycle of mechatronic subsystems: design, fabrication, assembly, documentation and testing of systems that include multi axis actuation. The ideal candidate also brings genuine depth in system dynamics, modeling and vibration analysis. You will work within a small team of engineers building a novel robotics and automation solution. As an early stage company, this role carries a high degree of autonomy, and you should be comfortable working in a fast paced environment where requirements can shift and decisions often need to be made with limited information.
What You Will Do
- Design, fabricate, assemble, document and test mechatronic systems including multi axis actuation
- Specify electro mechanical actuators, motors and sensing technologies such as encoders, load cells and proximity sensors
- Apply system dynamics, simulation, modeling and vibration analysis to real hardware problems
- Run finite element analysis to validate designs
- Produce production ready engineering documentation in SolidWorks per ASME Y14.5
- Collaborate closely with a small, senior engineering team, moving from concept through shipped product
What We Are Looking For
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering or equivalent
- 5 to 8 years of applicable professional experience in robotics or automation
- Demonstrated experience designing electro mechanical systems from concept through shipped product at scale, industrial products preferred
- Expertise in specifying electro mechanical actuators, motors and sensing technologies
- Expertise in system dynamics, simulation, modeling and vibration analysis
- Experience running finite element analysis
- Proficiency with SolidWorks and preparing engineering documentation to ASME Y14.5 for production release
- Strong problem solving, communication and teamwork skills
Preferred, Not Required
- MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
- Industrial tooling design experience
- Experience developing free body diagrams and governing equations for electro mechanical systems
- Experience performing static and dynamic load calculations and kinematic analysis
- Experience with industrial controls systems
- Experience developing engineering documentation processes such as bill of materials, part numbering and CAD vault
- Matlab or Python experience
