About the Opportunity
A specialist aerospace and technology organisation is looking for an IT Systems Engineer to support satellite missions from a secure Mission Control Center in Gelsdorf.
This position combines live operational responsibility with the hands-on administration of the servers, storage systems and wider IT infrastructure that keep complex satellite ground systems continuously available.
You will join an established technical team and collaborate with national and international mission partners in a highly available and mission-critical environment.
Your Responsibilities
- Operate satellite missions in collaboration with national and international partners.
- Administer the IT systems and technical components supporting mission operations.
- Detect, analyse and resolve faults to maintain continuous system availability.
- Plan, install, configure and administer server and storage systems.
- Support the procurement of IT hardware and technical components.
- Contribute to internal and customer-facing testing and acceptance activities.
- Analyse hardware requirements for satellite ground systems.
- Implement system and configuration requirements.
- Provide technical support to systems engineers, software developers and end users.
- Deliver user support and training where required.
Your Background
- Completed vocational training in IT, a degree in computer science or a comparable qualification.
- Professional experience in systems engineering, systems administration or a related infrastructure position.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, databases and VMware.
- Experience designing, implementing or operating highly available IT environments.
- Experience supporting complex IT systems would be beneficial.
- Unix or Linux knowledge would be advantageous.
- IT security experience would also be beneficial.
- Fluent German and very good English.
- A responsible, dependable and team-oriented working style.
Working Environment
- The role is predominantly onsite in Gelsdorf due to the secure and operational nature of the environment.
- You must be willing to work within a three-shift rotation and participate in an on-call rota.
- You must be willing to undergo German Security Clearance Level 3.
- Temporary work from the organisation’s Bremen site may be required while the clearance process is completed.
- Home working is only occasionally possible for suitable activities such as document reviews.
- Travel requirements are minimal, although occasional travel to Bremen may be required.
Your Responsibilities

- Administer the IT systems and technical components supporting a complex operational environment.
- Ensure continuous system availability through proactive monitoring, fault detection, analysis and resolution.
- Plan, install, configure and administer Windows Server and storage systems.
- Manage and support VMware-based virtual environments.
- Support the procurement and implementation of IT hardware and infrastructure components.
- Contribute to system testing and technical acceptance activities, both internally and at customer sites where required.
- Analyse infrastructure and hardware requirements for complex technical systems.
- Implement system, hardware and configuration requirements.
- Provide technical support to systems engineers, software developers and end users.
- Create technical documentation and support user training.
