About this job

This successful start-up is an early-stage, rapidly growing company backed by investors like Sequoia, SV Angel, and YCombinator are looking for an experienced Ruby on Rails engineer in San Francisco's Financial District. If you’ve ever gone through the pain of getting a mortgage and would like to change that process, then read on.

They’re a small team tackling the significant mortgage market. Bringing modern, elegant software to a field that still relies on old technologies such as fax. They bring security, efficiency and joy to a paper-based pillar of the US economy. Imagine joining a company that’s currently changing the industry by building a connected network for the industry; where all aspects of the mortgage cycle can be done in one place.

The type of problems they focus on involve workflow, product design, and data. Monolith vs microservice is an ongoing debate. They are working to find a good authentication pattern that allows for people to work across companies in multiple roles (which is trickier than you might think!)

They trust their team members to make smart decisions. This means they value both independent work as well as seeking collaboration. This company is becoming ubiquitous in one segment of the market and looking to hire several core engineers to help expand further.

As a Software Engineer in you will play a central role in the design and development of high-volume, low-latency applications for mission-critical systems. You will work with product and engineering teams to release at a high velocity and contribute in all phases of the development lifecycle.

You will ideally be a senior engineer who has experience working on a large-scale consumer-facing product. As a baseline, you are strong with Ruby on Rails with the tech stack including React, (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.), AWS and Restful APIs. As this company is still in start-up mode you are expected to wear multiple hats from testing to DevOps. If you’ve not worked on these areas though that’s ok - this company is happy for you to learn new skills on the job!

Their culture is one that strongly values diversity and drive. They want you to work with people of different backgrounds and different paths in life, a culture that promotes trust within its team.
